“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11: 9-10“Mom! Can I have a drink?” “Mom! Can I go to Suzy’s house to play?” “Mom! Can I have a snack?” “Mom! Will you find my missing sock?” Okay, I don’t think this scripture meant for these types of questions. But they’re not too far off of what Jesus was trying to teach. Jesus is teaching us how to pray. Have you ever heard that saying, “Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything”? That’s not just a saying, that’s a scripture from Philippians 4:6. Jesus is saying that if you ask God in prayer for something, God promises that He will listen and give you what you ask for. Sounds pretty tempting, but here’s the catch: You can pray to win the lottery but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to get it. God is going to answer your prayers, but with God’s will. If you were never meant to be rich in this life, you probably won’t win the lottery, even if you ask God for it. God knows what’s best for us but if we ask God for something, He just might have something better in mind for us. We may not win the lottery when we ask for it, but being “rich” can mean more than just monetary means. We can become “rich” with wisdom, love, friends, family, experiences, happiness and the list will go on and on! Asking in prayer for those things, and asking for wisdom, and asking for help, and asking for anything and everything, God will answer our prayers. Just be sure to keep your eyes, ears and your heart open for His answers. He might be answering our prayers when we’re not paying attention!
Thought for the day: If you could ask God for ONE any thing in the world, what would it be?
