The Noble Wife

I'm sure you’ve seen those commercials where the wife is getting her household ready for the day.  The kids are running around and gathering their scattered school supplies and homework, the husband is looking for his briefcase and the kitchen table still has the dishes from their family breakfast.  All the while, the mom is smiling, answering the “where is….” questions and getting her family out the door just in time with a smile and gathered calmness.

We’ve all had at least one morning where we had our act together, right?  At least one.  Unfortunately, for us “normal” moms there was no camera around to record that record-breaking morning.  Hmpf!  Most of the time NO ONE around us even noticed that we moms were the culprit to getting everyone out of the house in time.

Oftentimes, stay-at-home moms (and dads) are labeled to have lots of time on their hands and could help out with this or that.  What a lot of people don’t realize is that yes, we are home but we’re home doing many, many, many other things and most of the time, all those many things are being done at once.  It is so easy to feel taken advantage of when left behind for the morning mess to be cleaned up by everyone one else hustling out the door.

I came across a scripture in the Bible about the Wife of Noble Character, Proverbs 31: 10b-31. I won’t quote the whole proverb because it is rather long, but it’s basically a poem about how valuable a wife is who loves the Lord. My favorite part is verse 10-11:  

“… She is worth far more than rubies.  Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value..”  

It goes on saying how a noble wife works hard, knows much, does more than she needs to provide for her family and on and on.  Verse 30-31 says  

“…but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”

It’s very easy to grumble and complain about not feeling appreciated but God sees everything we do.  He knows everything and if we don’t get a huge reward here on earth (such as a thanks), we’ll certainly get our most magnificent reward when we are ready to enter into Heaven, because we tried our very best to be the best wife and mother we can possibly be in God’s eyes.
